Nash
By Tim
If you’ve
never read the online comic strip “Sluggy Freelance,”
you don’t know what you’re missing. My good friend Chuck
is the person who got me reading it, and I’ve been hooked
ever since. Chuck’s working on the main characters as customs,
but I thought in the meantime it would be fun to work on some of
the strip’s villains as a gift for Christmas.
Nash is the villain from the story arc “Phoenix Rising”
and I loved his design from the moment I saw it. I even showed it
to Kevin, who doesn’t read the strip, and he was instantly
fascinated! Nash is made from a weird collection of parts. His head
began as a Nightwing head, though it’s almost indistinguishable
at this point. His torso came from a Hasbro Wildcard Joker, and
hands from a Flash figure. His legs came from Atom Smasher with
the bottom of his pants sculpted. I really wanted to create a new
look for a trench coat figure (a lot of Bruce Wayne trench coats
and Machine Gun Jokers used around here), so that’s why I
went with the Joker torso, with vinyl added to the bottom to finish
out the coat. His scarf was cut from vinyl, and his hat is vinyl
and Sculpey. For the life of me I don’t know where that gun
came from. I think an X-Men figure, but I’m not sure. This
is one of my favorite custom figures, but unfortunately the picture
doesn’t do it justice.
